Andy Goldsworthy for Kids

I wanted to do a unit on Andy Goldsworthy with my class this summer and came along this while doing research: Andy Goldsworthy for Kids.  I taught it to my summer school class... we did a whole bunch of Goldsworthy-inspired work.  For this one I made a sample animation.  We had so much fun, and the kids loved it.

fall coming on

I made this one above (the one below is thrifted)... the glaze dried and flaked off in places... I guess its either leave it bare or have thickness in other spots.  I left it alone.  I prefer imperfections in things that are handmade I think.  The little plant I found in the street.  It was only 1" long when I picked it up, and it has been doing well.  I hope she likes her new home.

Polish pottery from my neighbor in Pennsylvania... I never really used it as a soup mug because I've been in Los Angeles, but maybe I will need it in a month or two and I will have to give this jade cutting a new home.

Some more of my first ceramics pieces.  My time in the studio was always being cut short because of school, but I plan on continuing after I have moved eastward.

strange sounds coming in

Our neighbor's plantain tree.  At least, I think it is a plantain.  If it's a banana tree I will be even more jealous.  They have a huge beautiful garden in the front of the house with little purple peppers, mint, lettuce, basil, all kinds of vegetables.  I am definitely inspired by them, especially when the smell of their dinner wafts up to the second floor.  I need to take pictures sometime.

This looks like a fancy resort but really is a friend's apartment where we had our book club meeting this week.  Talking about Keith Richards (we read Life), drinking Pimm's cups and floating around on a big orca.

I'm always messing about with succulent cuttings.  There are so many to be had in this neighborhood.  I wish I would have made more of this space -- growing more vegetables and whatnot...
